In 2016 I was lucky enough to spend several wonderful weeks hunting with Dicky DuToit of Omutati Safaris. Hunting at Omutati has been my best hunting experience so far and I have hunted Africa, Europe and North America. I have never felt so well taken care of and a member of the family at the same time. The game is plentiful and the hospitality is unparalleled. The landscape at Omutati seems endless and Dicky is on such good terms with neighboring landowners that it really is. The trophy quality and health of the game animals we saw were remarkable because the area has seen so little hunting pressure in the last two decades and because the DuToits are such good stewards of the land. Hunting the area is pure joy and at the end of each excursion I was greeted with a moist towel and a cold beverage as I dismounted the truck and we later enjoyed sundowners (Gin and Tonic was the right answer for me!) and snacks in upscale comfort on the veranda by the pool before dinner. The accommodations were exceptional and food was an excellent parade of German and Afrikaner favorites complimented by fine South African wines every day. At Omutati you never know what surprise the Dutoits and their staff will have for you next: a special setup for sundowners at a high vantage-point overlooking the huge property, a custom leopard cake on your birthday, getting to help with tracking a marauding lion, and a day and a raucous night with Professional Hunters and ranchers at the five star Erindi Private Game Reserve Lodge. I give Omutati my highest endorsement and I back that up by saying I have already booked a return trip this year.
